ISANH Polyphenols 2012 Scientific Committee awarded Pr Andreas Schieber for his Scientific Contribution

Andreas Schieber was educated at the University of Stuttgart/Germany and graduated in Food Chemistry in 1992. He obtained his doctorate at the Institute of Food Science and Biotechnology, Hohenheim University, in 1996 and was bestowed upon the venia legendi in Food Chemistry and Food Technology at the same university in 2004.

 

From 2008 to 2011 he was a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals at the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Sciences, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. From 2008 to 2010 he was also a Visiting Professor at the University of Costa Rica in San José. Since 2011 he holds the Chair of Food Technology and Food Biotechnology at the University of Bonn/Germany.

 

His main research interests are the utilization of by-products from food processing as a source of bioactive compounds and high-value chemicals; the development and validation of analytical methods for quality and authenticity control of foods including functional foods and dietary supplements; and natural antioxidants, colorants, and preservatives. He is the author/co-author of more than 160 original articles, reviews and book chapters and over 200 congress contributions. He edited 3 special issues of the journals Trends in Food Science & Technology, Innovative Food Science and Emerging Technologies, and Food Research International. His scientific contributions were recognized through several national and international research awards.

From 2007 to 2010 he was a member of the Editorial Board of Trends in Food Science & Technology. Since 2011 he is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
