Extracellular Vesicles and Polyphenols: A New Frontier for Precision Nutrition and Clinical Translation

Alberto Dávalos, IMDEA-Food, Spain

Can extracellular vesicles become a new frontier in polyphenol research and clinical translation? Can they help explain how polyphenol-derived metabolites are distributed throughout the body and reach their biological targets?

Alberto Dávalos, from the Laboratory of Epigenetics of Lipid Metabolism at IMDEA Nutrition and CIBEROBN, Instituto de Salud Carlos III, Madrid, will address these important questions through a highly innovative lecture at the interface of polyphenol biology, extracellular vesicles, and clinical applications. His work explores how extracellular vesicles act not only as mediators of intercellular communication, but also as natural nanocarriers able to transport polyphenol-derived metabolites and other bioactive molecules across biological systems.

How do extracellular vesicles influence inflammation, metabolism, and neuroprotection? Could plant-derived extracellular vesicles become new tools for precision nutrition, biomarker discovery, and targeted delivery?

This presentation will highlight emerging evidence that extracellular vesicles may play a key role in the bioavailability and systemic effects of polyphenols, while also opening new perspectives for diagnostics and therapeutic innovation. By connecting nutritional science, molecular signaling, and future clinical applications, this talk brings a highly strategic and forward-looking dimension to Polyphenols Applications 2026.
