Impact of aronia juice-based food supplement on DNA integrity in humans
Dr. Elke Richling, University of Kaiserslautern, Germany will join the Polyphenols Applications 2021 Congress and give a presentation entitled "Impact of aronia juice-based food supplement on DNA integrity in humans".
Dr. Richling will present her recent eight-week intervention study, in which she and her team investigated the effects of aronia (Aronia melanocarpa) juice-based food supplement on background and total DNA strand breaks in whole blood and response to H2O2-induced DNA strand breaks in isolated peripheral blood lymphocytes. The results showed a significant decrease of background DNA strand breaks after four and eight weeks of supplement consumption, compared to the wash out period. H2O2-induced DNA strand breaks were clearly diminished in the test group after four and eight weeks in comparison to the control group. Taken together, the consumption of the aronia juice-based food supplement contributed to the maintenance of DNA integrity in healthy volunteers.
