Klara Supikova, Palacky University Olomouc, Czech Republic was discerened an award for her poster entitled "Sulfated Phenolic Acids are Common Plant Metabolites".

This study describes mainly novel sulfated derivatives of phenolic acids identified in plants. Only some of these compounds were detected before, nevertheless, only in marine species (seagrasses and algae).

Klara stated: "In the future, I would like to focus on the identification of other unknown potentially sulfated compounds present in nature, as we already know, the plant "sulfatome" is quite rich in some cases. A challenging task for me and my colleagues will be the discovery of sulfotransferases responsible for the biosynthesis. Moreover, the definition of the physiological functions of sulfated phenolics in plants remains also unclear, thus, I would like to direct my research activities to answer these questions."

Another poster award was given to Sandra Mariño-Cortegoso, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, for her contribution "Recovery of Bioactive Compounds From Lime and Lemon By-Products Through Sustainable Methodologies".

When asked, Sandra affirmed: “This work is a part of the research project VALICET focuses on the valorization of fruit by-products using green extraction technologies for future approaches in the application of fruit by-products as food ingredients and additives through the recovery of added-value compounds. Future work will be done on the encapsulation of the bioactive compounds to develop ingredients, edible and active packaging and coatings to extend food shelf-life."

Katia Ruel Poster 2022

Katia Ruel, ADKALIS - Groupe BERKEM, France, was also discerned an award for her poster contribution "Plant Polyphenolic Extract From Berkem Biosolutions® for Antimicrobial Protection of Cosmetic Products".

Katia stated: "In keeping with my interest in the activity of polyphenols in the domains of cosmetics and of protection of wood  and grains against biological predators, my research in collaboration with Groupe Berkem R&D laboratories will deepen understanding of the mechanisms underlying the action of these natural plant polyphenolics extracts.”

The scientific committee of Polyphenols Applications congratulates the winners once again. We will be looking forward to learning about their progress during the next edition.

If you missed on the posters, you can access all absracts by ordering the abstracts book.
