Hormetic response to B-type procyanidin ingestion may involve stress-related neuromodulation via the gut–brain axis: Preclinical and clinical observations
Dr. Naomi Okasabe, from Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan will join the Polyphenols Applications 2023 congress which will be held in Malta, on September 28-29, 2023, and present the "Hormetic response to B-type procyanidin ingestion may involve stress-related neuromodulation via the gut–brain axis: Preclinical and clinical observations".
B-type procyanidins, a series of catechin oligomers, reduce cardiovascular disease risk and impact central nervous system (CNS) function. Comprehensive analyses of previous reports indicate an optimal mid-range dose for the hemodynamic effects of B-type procyanidins, with null responses at lower or higher doses, suggesting hormesis. Dr. Okasabe previously confirmed the hormesis of hemodynamic responses to B-type procyanidins in animal studies, in addition, our work has linked these effects to the CNS. In this presentation, we evaluate the hormetic response elicited by B-type procyanidins, recontextualizing the results of intervention trials. In addition, Dr. Okasabe will discuss the possibility that this hormetic response to B-type procyanidins arises via CNS neurotransmitter receptors.
